The shear-out ball seat sub is installed in the tubing string below a hydraulic packer to provide a method of applying the tubing pressure required to activate the packer.
To set a hydraulic packer, the recommended size ball is circulated to a seat in the shear-out ball seat sub and sufficient tubing pressure is applied to set the packer . After the packer is set, a pressure increase pump out the ball and seat. The shear-out ball seat sub is then full-opening.
